He allows young people to read those life transforming lessons in him. Therefore if the church is to impact young people, having true leaders is a crutial issue. Great article…. I love this article. My biggest struggle right now, as a leader, is in helping other leaders around me to tough it through the hard times to get to that richness that requires work, humility, and grace, when they would often rather just expect those things from others, but not put in their share of the effort. I deeply appreciate the challenge here to be authentic, and by doing so, to model authenticity to others.
A worthy calling! The masks just seem to be thicker inside the walls of the institution as compared to outside the walls. Inside the walls that can become things like Sunday attendance or how many new faces were counted at outreach events, but it can also be things like lifegroup attendance or number of baptisms which are a better indicator of heart change and growth over time.
Outside the walls it can be even more diverse. I agree with your comment about masks, and have definitely experienced the same. Great post Carey! We are seeing this also. And take good care of their kids!! It seems by definition leading an organization means leaders care more about the structure around individuals over the individuals themselves. This seems appropriate for business where the purpose of the organization is to deliver a product or service.

Ask yourself whether or not you feel welcome in this new community of believers.
In prayer, do some business with God and earnestly ask Him to reveal to you why this church seems to be shutting you down. Be ready to listen and act based on His leading. The result of your obedience will surely be His glory and your greatest good. To believe in God and to pursue His will for our lives means to stop seeing the world as culture defines it and to start seeing it as God defines it. They will wisely distinguish between the areas of culture and the world with which we should engage and those we should reject outright. A good church will fight to maintain the sanctity of its people and to challenge them to live up to the moral standards set forth in Scripture, knowing all the while this quest for moral purity and holiness is a messy process done not in search of but in response to a grace freely and fully given.
Does this mean the members in the church are better than those outside its walls? Does the idea that we are holy, or set apart by God, give us a reason to boast and look down our noses at unbelievers? Absolutely not. If a church holds that view of holiness, then you should probably run the other way. God created the church in order to accomplish His mission in the world. In Ephesians, Paul tells us that in the gospel of Christ, God has made known to us His eternal plan to unite all things to Himself A faithful church will take these words seriously and recognize they exist for far more than Sunday morning worship services.
We were not created for isolation. I want to encourage you to use these seven principles as tools for how to find a good and faithful church in your area. Many fall omewhere in between. You must seek God's will and be led by the Holy Spirit in selecting a church. Also you need to evaluate how you and your family can contribute to that ministry so it is not just another church, but truly a church home. Just as you would inspect the soundness of a house's foundation, so you should investigate the doctrinal stance of the churches you visit. Where do they stand on such crucial issues of the Christian faith as the virgin birth and deity of Jesus Christ; the depravity of mankind; the work of Christ on the cross; His death, burial, and bodily resurrection; salvation by grace through faith alone; the second coming of Christ; and the ordinances of baptism and Communion?

The same is true when considering the size of a church. Some Christians love being involved in a large urban ministry with hundreds or even thousands of people.
Others feel lost in the vastness of such a ministry and fare much better in a smaller congregation.
