This book was amazing it deals with the tough subject of mental health and pulled me in immediately its an emotional journey and secrets and lies are revealed it was one of those books I had to read in one sitting I didn't want to put it down until I reached the end.
Lydia Baker is returning home after a few years away, after her father had, had her admitted to a mental facility she definitely doesn't I received a complimenty copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review. Lydia Baker is returning home after a few years away, after her father had, had her admitted to a mental facility she definitely doesn't get a warm welcome home and isnt at all excited to be there.
Her reason for coming back is her best friend Kate she wants to fix herself and show Kate that she doesn't need to relay on her all the time. Callum Reeves is also coming back to his home town he's Kate's cousin, he's lost his job and wants a fresh start and he's not a fan of Lydia he's really judgemental of her when he hasn't even got all the facts of things that were happening when they were all growing up. Over time secrets and lies are revealed and Callum see's a new side to Lydia and they start to forge a close friendship but when Lydia begins to withdraw into her self and her friends fear she is on her way to a breakdown will he betray Lydia in the worst way possible and is there more to Lydia's illness than meets the eye.
This book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I have to say I'm desperate to find out what's going to happen next. Feb 06, Natalie Townson rated it really liked it. Good book Grips you in and makes you feel. This was the first book that i read by Annie Hughes but it wont be the last. The story was fantastic it gripped you from the very beginning with all characters very likable. Lydia is crazy, but also extremely vulnerable at first she is quite hard to get you dont fully understand what is going on with her, when it finally clicks that she has mental health issues you start to see her with different eyes.
You see the battles she has to endure, the fear she Good book Grips you in and makes you feel. You see the battles she has to endure, the fear she feels on a daily basis is overwhelming, I cried a few times especially when you see how selfless she is and the secrets she hides. Cal at first i really liked then my feelings switched up on him and then come full circle.
I thought he has everyones best interests at heart but like most people he sometimes got it wrong. At first he doesnt get lydia, he thinks she is attention seeking but for some reason she gets under his skin and he soon sees the person she really is. He sometimes came accross as a bit of an ass or judged everyone on their actions when i thought his own were questionable. This is why i flip flopped between weather i liked or loathed him. I really enjoyed this book and i look forward to the second one. I cannot wait to see what happens next Jan 15, Pamela Stallings rated it it was amazing Shelves: books-that-will-haunt-me , books-i-d-recommend , holy-shit-cliffhanger.
This book gutted me like ripped my heart out and stomped on it. Bravo to Annie Hughes if I could I'd give her a standing ovation, it is that great of a book. The characters are just so real and I just love the friendship between Lydia and Kate. I can't tell you how much I loved Lydia. I can't imagine what she goes through all day. Mental illness is a taboo subject that a lot of people tend to stay away from but Annie tackles it head on and I promise you it will break your heart seeing Lydia suff This book gutted me like ripped my heart out and stomped on it.
Mental illness is a taboo subject that a lot of people tend to stay away from but Annie tackles it head on and I promise you it will break your heart seeing Lydia suffer. At first I thought why does Callum hate Lydia so much but I can see where he's coming from. He has no clue about all the secrets around him. I loved that there is plenty of sexual tension in this book between Callum and Lydia but they don't give in and instead they build a friendship. I think that's what really killed me at the end because I knew there was a true friendship there.
The banter between these two is hilarious, you can really feel the chemistry. So much happens in this book, I read it in one night I just had to see what happens next. After that ending I was left literally speechless. I need this next book like I need air to breathe. Absolutely amazing job Annie Hughes if I could give it more than 5 stars I would. Jan 11, Heavenly rated it it was amazing. Alpha, Beta and ARC provided by the author. After me begging to get the early copies.
Standing ovation. Annie you overdid yourself. There is not enough words in English or in Polish to describe how insert common F word amazing this book is. Once I finished it don't remember if it was first or fifth read as the reaction was pretty much the same I was speechless. I just can't understand how in one person's mind such a brilliant story can be born.
Annie just created a masterpiece. Hands down, up She managed to write a romance story where a main character has mental issues. And let me tell you that: Lydia kicks serious asses. You are just not able to not feel what she feels, what she is going through and see the world through her eyes. That's how good Miss Hughes is. And the other party involved? Is a damn asshole who always believed Lydia was a troubled kid who created and pulled his cousin into mess.
I would love to tell you more but damn I will spoil the fun of discovering this story by yourself. Just go and READ. Not enough stars to give.

She was broken and hurting, but she was strong, loyal and funny. Annie Hughes writing really struck me. This is the first time I've read a book that made me feel the anxiety the way the character felt it.
I read this all in one night because I could not wait to find out what was coming next. The ending just totally gutted me and left me feeling so raw and emotional. Feb 01, Sherri rated it it was amazing. See Mommy's Naughty Playground for review. Jan 25, Lady Living In Bookland rated it it was amazing. Beyond Repair was one of those books that reignited my love for books. She knows it and flaunts it!
She w Beyond Repair was one of those books that reignited my love for books. She wears her individuality like a f- k! Lydia has known nothing but judgement and is used to being disregarded or looked at strangely in her small town, the town her father is Mayor of, but after being sent away, all the family she knows is her best friend, Kitty. But she comes back larger and more hilarious than life Excerpt: Judiciary populum intelligere minore sunt - People judge what they are too small to understand A beautifully told, funny at moments but also thought provoking and emotive story of mental health disorders and how they affect others as well as those we love around us.
It really made me acutely aware of the complexities of mental health and the knowledge the author wrote into this story just blew me away. Excerpt This is what I hate the most about my illness. It sucks me into its black hole without any word of warning, sucker punching the wind out of me at the most inconvenient times. It seems to be getting worse. I can feel the people around me, feel all of their stares cutting through me like a sharp knife.

Their judgement is threatening the tiny pieces of string that stop me from falling apart. Callum Reeves was about to be brought into the circle of friends and get to know Lydia better than most, but could he fix her or was she truly beyond repair? Annie Hughes is fast becoming one of my favourite authors, after having read a couple of her books last year. Aug 11, Lisa rated it liked it. Really on the fence about this one.
Yes, it tackled issues that usually get ignored but it made for uncomfortable reading. I think because some were willing to use Lydia's mental illness against her and I didn't like this element at all. Whilst there is another installment, I felt we didn't get the full picture which made it even more difficult to understand and swallow. I felt as helpless as Lydia when reading it which means that the author did her job well but with the general lack of understa Really on the fence about this one.
I felt as helpless as Lydia when reading it which means that the author did her job well but with the general lack of understanding from some around her, particularly Callum, it made the whole read very uncomfortable. But then discussing mental health, whilst improving, still makes some people very uncomfortable because of a lack of understanding around it. So whilst writing this and expressing my thoughts about it my views are changing as the author has challenged me to look at my views of mental health. May 12, K. Lowe rated it really liked it.
This is the first book that I've read by this author so I had no idea what to expect. I've read so many deep, dark books lately, so when I started this book it was a welcome change. It is also different to read a book from the POV of someone with mental health issues. Immediate thoughts as the book starts is fun, lighthearted read, but then we get to know the "real" Lydia. Why she behaves the way she does, and what makes her tick. I want to jump into the book and murder her evil father. Thi Good! This book ends on a cliff hanger and immediately you're left wanting to jump into book 2.

I love that this author dug deep into mental health. Lydia, complicated, outspoken, hot mess and I completed love her. Callum, douchebag who redeemed himself sorta I was really envious of Kate and Lydia's friendship, Friend-soulmates are hard to find. I could not put this book down. End on a cliffy but good thing the next book is out. Sleep deprived Steph is go FML! Sleep deprived Steph is going to bed now. Sep 16, Sarah Green rated it it was amazing.
I feel broken after reading that. What the hell! I cried through most of that. I've literally sat up all night, as I couldn't put it down. I have no first hand experience with mental health issues, but by God did Annie do a stand up job. I am absolutely heartbroken here. I gripped me from page one.

I am reeling after that ending. Man, I feel like a hot mess. You must read this! Mar 26, Reflections of a Book Geek rated it it was amazing Shelves: r , gifted-from-author. The two books are totally different but both equally as amazing! Lydia was such a badass chick, I completely loved her from the first moment she bursts into the scene in this book. She 5 holy shit stars I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review. She was such an amazing character and had me in stitches with her inner and outer monologue! Her struggles were tremendous and I wanted to be able to just jump into this book and help her through them.
I felt like Lydia was a part of me reading this story and I have to admit she is my favourite heroine I have ever read! Callum was a completely different kettle of fish, I hated him in the beginning, the way he called Lydia names and treated her was disgraceful and I wanted to throat punch him on more than one occasion!! I did soften towards him at times in the story but I'm back to hating his guts again.
He will need to do a lot in the next book to redeem himself for me. The characters in this book were so well developed, they played off each other flawlessly and I loved the dynamic between Lydia and Kate. The book touched along some pretty sensitive topics but it showed how a person can still function and also the struggles people deal with in real life. This book was laugh out loud funny in parts and cry your eyes out sad at others. The story was gripping and had me clutched in its hook from the very first word.
Annie Hughes has quickly became a favourite and I will be waiting on tender hooks for her next work of art! I can't wait for more Lydia!!! Jan 19, Zean Maskell rated it liked it. I have been looking for books which feature a main character with a mental illness for a while any suggestions send them my way, so long as they are fictional! One thing I must say is that, in England, maybe it happens in America differently, some of the things that happen in this story are a bit unbelievable. As a person who has suffered with mental health issues, a lot of things would happen differently I have been looking for books which feature a main character with a mental illness for a while any suggestions send them my way, so long as they are fictional!
As a person who has suffered with mental health issues, a lot of things would happen differently and Lydia would have been treated in a different manner here. This did affect my enjoyment of the book slightly. The ending really did it for me. I felt so heartbroken for Lydia and I can't help but think Callum doesn't deserve to be with Lydia now, as he clearly doesn't trust her or listen to her and that is bad all round in my book.
However, I suppose the next book will tell Overall I feel Beyond Repair kept me entertained, however some of the unrealistic content did leave me slightly frustrated. Saying that, I look forward to the next book and hope Lydia finds someone who listens to her! Dec 04, Margaret rated it it was amazing.
I received this ARC for an honest review I've had to take some time to work out what I want to say about this book. I don't think there's anyone on this planet that hasn't experienced some form of mental health issue, whether it's them or someone they know. This book made me angry, so, so angry with some of the people in it and how they made Lydia feel. This book will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions, you'll love Lydia's crazy because she's right, she is just that awesome!!!!!
Annie has written an amazing story, I don't give spoilers, but what I will say is have hankies ready because your heart will break and you will sob. I can't wait for Bruised. Nov 14, Donna Smith rated it really liked it. This ends in a devastating cliff hanger.
I was nearly in tears at the end of this. Lydia has crawled into my conscience and I am so desperate to help her. She is one of the strongest characters I have read in a long time. Callum is in a tough situation with her. She is his cousin,Kate's, best friend so they are thrown together constantly.
Lydia has no one else but Kate and her husband Joe. Calum, she has no use for. Until they both realize that Kate loves them both and hates when they fig Warning. Until they both realize that Kate loves them both and hates when they fight. They come to a truce and find that they are attracted to each other. Not that they do anything about it.
